What about the tack?
We use a variety of saddles and tack...but all of it is made in Mongolia for Mongolian horses. We have found that even narrow backed saddles from overseas do not sit well on the triangular backs of Mongolian horses. To avoid damaging their backs, we stick with the local version of western saddles or russian saddles - both of which most people find comfortable. We also have break away stirrups and helmets available. If you need half chaps we have those too!
What about Insurance?
As you know, horseback riding, carries inherent dangers and while our horses are well trained, riding the open steppe anything can happen. To ensure your safety we provide helmets, break-away stirrups and carry a sattelite phone for use in an emergency. As a precaution for your own safety, however, we require that you carry your own insurance. Please check with your travel insurance company to ensure that horseback riding is not excluded from their coverage and that they will cover air medivacing out of Mongolia as, in the event of a serious injury, it may be required. You will be required to present proof of insuance and sign a liabilty waiver prior to the trip.
What if I need a break?
Some days we will have full car support while other days we will meet the car only at the end of the day. We have structured the trip so that the first few days are the easiest to allow you time to adjust to your horse and your new saddle. If this is not enough, we will do everyting in our power to make you comfortable and allow you to proceed at your own pace.
What are the bathroom facilities?
Ullanbaatar has modern facilities and Saraa's ger camp has an outhouse but for the rest of the time it will be wilderness camping and the facilities will be essentially non existant and standard wilderness camping techniques of burying your waste will be used.
