Horse Trek Mongolia
What to Bring

Summer (June - August)

Keeping in mind that we would like everyone to bring only one piece of  luggage, due to space restrictions, here are some things you might like  to bring along:
∙ Sunscreen
∙ Insect repellent (we have big horseflies and the occasional tick here as well as the usual assortment of wasps, mosquitos etc.) ∙ Riding pants ( whatever you are comfortable in)
∙ Runner’s lube ( in case of chafe)
- Rain Gear - both jacket and pants recommended.

∙ Layers – it may get quite cold at night and up in the mountains.  Please bring clothes to cover temperature range from -5 degrees  – plus 30 Celsius – please make sure to include a wind breaker as  Mongolia is famously windy and a rain coat as we may well  encounter rain and possibly even snow!
∙ Bathing suit / towel. We will be camping by rivers.
∙ Warm sleeping clothes & warm clothes for the evening. Some  places we will not be able to have a fire in the evening for safety  sake so please make sure you have enough to stay warm.
∙ Comfortable pants to wear after riding (yoga /sweat pants/shorts  etc.)
∙ Shoes / sandals to wear when not riding
∙ Proper riding shoes / boots (smooth soled with a heel) are  mandatory
∙ Riding gloves – please note that Mongolian reins are made of  softened rawhide and while they are very smooth and pliable,  they may not be what you are used to riding with. In the rain they
get very soggy / slippery and many people, even people who don’t  normally use gloves find that they are useful in that circumstance.
∙ We have helmets available but please feel free to bring your own  if you would rather. If you have a particularly large or small head  it is best to bring your own helmet as we cannot guarantee  sufficient selection to meet your needs.  Please let us know if you need us to provide a helmet for yoyu
∙ We will be doing some riding in the trees. Full or half chaps are  recommended depending on personal preference & comfort. We  will be crossing rivers and whatever you’re wearing may get wet  depending on how deep the water happens to be.
∙ Dry bags are a good idea for your camera equipment if you will be  carrying your camera with you on the horse. We do have a limited  number of saddle bags that participants are welcome to use  although often our guide carries the saddle bags on his horse.
∙ Dry bags for your sleeping bag / clothes is also not a bad idea as  our vehicles (if your trek is car supported) will also be crossing  rivers and while we do not expect the contents to get wet, it has  happened before. If your trek is not car supported then dry bags  for your sleeping bags / clothes is highly recommended.
∙ Sleeping bag suitable for nights down to -5 (unlikely, but possible)  & sleeping mat (we will provide you with a tent, but if you would  like to bring your own tent that is also fine. Please just let us know  if you are bringing your own tent)
∙ Pillow
∙ Flashlight
∙ Metal water bottle – great as a “hot water bottle” at night. ∙ Buff - those cotton “tube” scarves that you can use as a hat / scarf  etc. Used a lot by skiers, they are wonderful for keeping the dust  out of your nose and fit nicely under a helmet. Highly  recommended.
∙ Sunglasses – expect sunshine most days all day (unless it’s raining  of course!)
∙ Solar or car charger for your phone / camera etc. While trekking  we may have the odd occasion where we will have electricity but  mostly we will rely on car / solar charging.
∙ We will be carrying bottles of water in saddlebags but some  people like to bring and ride with their water back pack which is  fine. Mongolia is very dry and hydration is very important. ∙ Any medications you need
∙ Pain killers / anti-inflammatory if you use them.
∙ Wet wipes – you can buy them here, but the lovely “bath wipes”  that you can buy out in the world are not sold here. We will be  sometimes by a river for a proper wash but often wet wipes will  be the only way to bathe.
∙ Any special snack you would like to have – some people bring  beef jerky / granola bars - that sort of thing. We provide snacks of  course, but when you are tired and feeling a little sore (which  might happen) it is sometimes nice to have your favorite on hand.  Please note that there is no difficulty in bringing meat / vegetable  products into Mongolia. If you have a layover in China or Korea  and are not able to check your bag all the way through you may  have to declare these sorts of food items.
